NHL Rumors: Are Rasmus Andersson’s Days With the Calgary Flames Numbered?

Are Rasmus Andersson’s days in Calgary numbered?

Sportsnet: Eric Francis, when asked about Rasmus Anderssonand what his future could hold with the Calgary Flames. Will the loser finally get Andersson? What kind of contract would he be looking for? Is there even a future partnership with the Flames?

Matt Marchese: “But when it comes to Rasmus Andersson’s future, how open do you think he is to staying? Like, and how much of that is the comfort of being in Calgary and he’s been there his entire career, and how much of that is necessary to see what this looks like after, you know, whether it’s this year or later this year, like, how much of that is part of this conversation, or is that the bulk of it?”

Francis: “You know, I’ll answer that by saying, look, he, he loves it in Calgary. He’s been there for 10 years. A few years before that, he drafted there too, so that’s all he knows.”

NHL Injuries: Oilers, Wild, Predators, Islanders, Rangers, Kraken, Leafs and Canucks

But I think losing is affecting him. He wears it more than almost anyone else. And in our post-loss scrums they almost always send Rasmus Anderson out, and it’s like he lost his dog that day. You know, it’s everything, he always takes every loss so hard. And I think, cumulatively, throughout his time in Calgary, it’s been more losing than winning. And I personally think he’s probably had enough of that and wants to try something else.

Then there is the second part. But then again, he loves Calgary, loves his teammates. And he talked about that a lot yesterday. The way he is, he is, he is loved in that room. He is a leader.

Another thing of course is the money. You know, I understand. I understand he was looking at somewhere around $9 million a year last summer when they asked him what he was looking for. I honestly believe the Calgary Flames were interested in something somewhere around $7 million a year. That’s quite a gap between the two.

And don’t forget that Rasmus Anderson is 29 years old. These are kind of like two ships passing at night, if you ask me. As if the organization is trying to get younger, not older. And you know, signing him to a seven-year deal is something he’ll be looking for as well.

NHL Rumors: Devils, Canucks and the Canadiens

I’m not sure the organization should be looking at something like that, especially when it comes to a big item like Rasmus Anderson. So a man with heart and soul, they love him. I just don’t think it’s a good thing to move forward much longer.
