Anaheim Ducks need to be patient with Leo Carlsson and make a trade
TSN: The Anaheim Ducks are in first place in the Pacific Division, and when asked if they will be buyers heading into the trade season, Darren Dreger says, “Maybe.” Come on Leo Carlsson was second in the NHL scoring heading into Tuesday night and is eligible to sign a new contract, but there is no rush to extend or trade Carlsson.
“So it makes sense that Pat Verbeekthe GM, would want to lock that 20 year old kid up. But there’s no rush to do that from a player standpoint, nor is there a rush from the GM’s office to try to add to what they’re building now.
They are very aware of the start they have had, but they want to take a moment to look at the second half and see if an extra piece is needed.”

Ottawa Senators GM working the phones for impact moving forward and to find new homes for Alex Formenton and Max Guenette
The Ottawa Citizen’s Bruce Garrioch: Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios has been working the phones, looking for an impact player. Something that is not easy to do.
“We’re always looking at opportunities to improve our team. Anything specific? I wouldn’t say,” Staios said. “The timing, as we’ve seen, sometimes isn’t at the trade deadline or July 1. You keep having discussions and seeing if there’s a fit.”
Staios adds that almost every team is doing the same thing, trying to get better.
The senators are trying to trade its rights Alex Formentonwho was found not guilty of sexual abuse. Teams have reached out, but interest is limited. He signed with HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss League during the Christmas holidays. They will retain his rights until July 1, 2027, but can waive them at any time, making him a UFA.
Goalkeeper Max Guenette in the offseason, the Senators declined the offer after signing Lassi Thomson. He skates near his home in Quebec City. He requested a trade in the offseason. The Senators are looking for a draft pick and the teams are offering a bad contract.
NHL Rumors: Will the Ottawa Senators make a move and will it be a weird trade year?
Bruce Garrioch: Guenette’s agent, Dominic DeBlois, would only say he hopes the situation is resolved quickly, when asked if he would like to comment on it.
