A Rasmus Andersson trade appears to be getting closer, with the Boston Bruins leading the charge

Robert Munich: Elliotte Friedman, during the break of the Calgary Flames – New York Islanders game, about defender Rasmus Andersson and trade speculation is increasing. The Boston Bruins appear to be the frontrunners, with the Vegas Golden Knights lurking nearby.

“… about what might happen with Rasmus Anderson. And I think the Bruins business is very real. I think they are very interested, but there are two things we have to be satisfied with.”

First, it has to be a trade that the Flames are happy with. And number two, there has to be an extension that the Bruins have in their pocket. They are not willing to execute this trade at the current price unless they have an extension. And we are clearly not there yet.

NHL rumors: Jim Hiller safe in Los Angeles for now

I also believe Vegas is heavily involved. Remember, the Golden Knights tried to trade for Rasmus Anderson around the draft last year. They couldn’t make it work.

I think one of the problems there is that I don’t think the Golden Knights, as I understand it, can put together as good a package as the Bruins, at least not right now. But I think the Golden Knights have a lot of confidence that if they want to extend Andersson, they’ll be able to do so.

So we don’t have an agreement on either of those things, which is why he’s still in the lineup.

“Well, first of all, what a great performance he had today. And it looked very emotional at the end of the game. Like the way he came off the ice and high-fived his team. He was the third star. There was a lot, and I think everyone is wondering where this is going.”

NHL Rumors: Trade Deadline, Patrik Laine and and NHL Trade Bait List

This is what we can tell you. One phone call can change everything. That’s the caveat, but nothing is expected tonight, Ro, with Rasmus Anderson.

The Flames called a number of teams that were interested, or other teams they may not have heard much about. I heard it today and they said, ‘We want to decide whether to continue with this. That’s why we want everyone to have the most serious thing to offer.’ So that happens.

The team that seems to be in the driver’s seat, even though nothing gets done until it’s done, is Boston. Boston is very serious without his offer. And no one is confirming or denying this, but I believe they are the only team that has been allowed to talk to Andersson. And I really believe they’ve had some pretty important expansion conversations. Although, again, nothing gets done until it’s done. Both things have to work. Without an extension, the Bruins are not expected to have any interest in this.

Vegas is here. Their offer isn’t believed to be as strong as Boston’s, but that’s tentative. That can always change. But what Vegas has is that they like Andersson, and he likes them. I don’t think Vegas is at all concerned that if they could trade for him, or if he made it through the summer, they would have a great chance of getting him. But right now, from what I hear, their offering isn’t seen as strong.

I think Dallas has been around there. I think Toronto has been there. And I always worry, after what happened when Quinn Hughes went to Minnesota, that there are teams I don’t see.

NHL Rumors: The Calgary Flames and who is interested in Rasmus Andersson

But right now, as far as I can tell, and I think this is true, Boston is the only team that has permission to talk to him.”
