Drama around the contract situation of Connor McDavid has left a bad taste in the mouth of some Edmonton Oilers fans, but day 1 of the training camp offers much needed positivity. Until now, one of the more interesting developments is that two newcomers get the chance to play on the superstar wing.

Mangiapane was the flashy pick -up. The 29-year-old ink a two-year-old, $ 3.6 million cap-hit deal after the Washington Capitals had him tested the market. Last season he registered 14 goals and so many assists in 81 games.
Although that is a considerable production of the third line, the oilers will be looking for more. Mangiapane peaked in 2021-22 with the Calgary Flames, scored a career-high 35 goals and added 20 assists for 55 points. On the other hand, Tomášek is a real Yoker sign that signed a year and $ 1.2 million. The 29-year-old has no NHL experience, instead he spends professional in Europe in the last decade. Last season he led the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in Point-Scoring, with 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 47 games.
Easy the pinnacle scorer of his team, despite being accompanied by former NHL depth players, Tomášek is a realistic candidate for a daily role in the oilers. But can he fill in in the case of injury in the case of injury? That is an important question to answer.
