Newcastle United Turn Down Approach of Champions League rival for Sven Botman – Report

In Germany it has now been reported that Newcastle United had an approach for Sven Botman from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga club lost defender Piero Hincapie to Arsenal and Kicker Report that their information is that Bayer Leverkusen then tried to sign the Newcastle defender to replace it.

The German media outlet, however, states that Newcastle United made it clear that Sven Botman was not going anywhere.

Eddie Howe’s Side Play against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday December 10, 2025 (see below), in the sixth round of competitions.

Sven Botman is a defender of the top class and was part of the best defense in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season, because Newcastle gave only 33 league goals.

With injuries and fitness issues that have a great influence on the past two seasons, it will be a huge boost for Eddie Howe if the Dutch defender can remain fit and available this season.

Sven Botman was mentioned last week in the 21 men ‘A’ List Newcastle United Champions League team and there would have been no chance on Eddie Howe, taking into account a deadline day agreement that Botman would have seen leaving St James’ park.
