Newcastle United Official announcement – August 2, 2025:

Mathos Ferreira and Aaron Epia have put pen on paper about their first professional contracts with Newcastle United.

The highly appreciated couple signed full-time stock exchanges last summer with United’s Academy before the agreement agreed with Pro Deals as soon as both became 17 years old.

Ferreira, who is celebrating his 17th birthday today, is a winger who can play on both flanks and recorded an assist during a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Premier League 2 in January on his debut for United’s side of United.

The promising young person, who came to United’s Academy in 2020 after playing for the local club Berwick Juniors, registered eight goals and six assists in the Under-18 Premier League North last season and scored his first goal at the level under 21 against Leicester City in February.

Ferreira, born of a Brazilian father and the Italian mother, told Newcastuunited.com: “Signing this contract is a really special moment for me and my family. It is a clear sign that all the hard work, sacrifice and determination are starting to bear fruit.

“Last season was really positive for me, making my debut under the age of 21 and it was a proud moment to get an assist and to make an impact on the game, making it even more worthwhile.

“Such moments reflect the progress I make, but I know that there is much more to be achieved. I am incredibly grateful to my family for their constant support and for all the staff who helped me grow both as a player and a person.

“I also stand new goals and push to improve this season and I want to secure a regular place in the team under 21 hours, including starting games. I am focused, hungry and enthusiastic about what awaits us.”

EPIA, a Ball-Play Center-Back, joined Everton’s Magpies last summer and made 14 competition matches for United on United at Under-18 level during the 2024/25 campaign, and scored his first Newcastle goal against his former club in March.

The aggressive defender, who admires Jarrad Branthwaite and John Stones, admitted that he is now picking the benefits of making a difficult choice when moving northwest to northeastern England to eventually reach a lifelong ambition.

The manchester, born in Manchester, added: “When I came here last year, I was not so sure about moving to Newcastle, but when I got used to the culture and surroundings, I finally enjoyed it and I love it now.

“It was a big step to sign my first professional contract, because it is something that I have worked all my life, with a lot of support from my family. I am really happy to sign it.

“I love the values of Newcastle and how they admire hard work. It is a big club, a big city and it is a huge step for me.

“I want to play regularly for the under-18s and hopefully I can go to the Under-21s group and then get to the first team in a few years, my debut for the club.”

Academier director Steve Harper said: “This is an important step for Matheos and Aaron and one that they both earned for the progress they have made since he came to the club.

“They have shown real adulthood in how they approached their development, both on and outside the field, and they both consistently demonstrate the values we want to see with young professionals.

“We are dedicated to help them build on this foundation and continue their development in a positive, competitive environment.”
