Advice has been given to Newcastle United fans heading to the Sunderland v Newcastle match.
This Premier League match will be played on Sunday 14 December with a 2pm kick-off.

It has been more than ten years since Sunderland last won a derby match against NUFC.
While last year, Newcastle United fans saw their team beat Mackems 3-0 on Wearside in that FA Cup third round tie.
The club official advice released for Newcastle United fans ahead of Sunderland v Newcastle – December 11, 2025:
Supporters with tickets for this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby are advised to plan their travels.
The Magpies head to the Stadium of Light this Sunday (2pm kick-off) and have been working with local authorities to help fans plan a safe journey to and from the match.
Plans have been made for supporters to be able to attend the match in a number of ways, without the restrictions seen in previous years.
SAFETY OF SUPPORTERS
On the day there will be a much larger police presence around the ground than normal and to further facilitate the safe arrival and departure of both groups of fans, police cordons will be in place.
Fans are asked to keep up to date with all information from their respective clubs ahead of the match.
Newcastle United has worked with the wider police operation alongside Newcastle and Sunderland Councils, Nexus, the British Transport Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, and the North East Ambulance Service and Sunderland AFC.
METRO SERVICE
There will be no dedicated Metro services for Newcastle United Supporters for this match. Supporters can make their own way to the fixture via the metro system.
NB; All southbound Metro trains (between 10am and 2pm) towards Sunderland do not stop at Stadium of Light station. Newcastle United fans must use St. Peter’s station to arrive. Newcastle United fans will see a strong police presence as they alight at St. Peter’s station to help supporters to the turnstiles.
Metro trains traveling north (from South Hylton) do not stop at St. Peter’s Station.
After the match, away fans wishing to use the Tube to return to Tyneside should follow the lead of Northumbria Police, who can refer supporters.
Supporters are encouraged to purchase their Metro tickets in advance to avoid queues and delays on the day. Magpie Movers CANNOT be used with this fixture.
BUSES FROM ST. JACOBUS PARK
All supporters traveling to the match via Newcastle United’s bus service should now have received an email informing them of the location and time of departure. If you have not received this, please email supporter.services@nufc.co.uk. There are no longer bus tickets for sale.
Alcohol is not allowed on these buses.
ACCESS TO THE STADIUM OF LIGHT
All persons, including children, are searched upon entry. Security measures will be taken to ensure appropriate supervision during searches involving minors.
Coins
The Stadium of Light operates as a cashless venue. All coins discovered during searches are placed in sealed collection buckets. These will be donated to the Newcastle United Foundation.
Vaping
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in the stadium. If such devices are found, they will be confiscated.
Power banks
Portable charging devices are not allowed.
Pyrotechnics / Fireworks
Possession of a pyrotechnic device will result in refusal of entry and referral to Northumbria Police.
Medicines
Only medications prescribed by a medical professional are allowed. All other substances will result in denial of entry and police involvement.
Glass bottles
Glass containers of any kind, including perfume and cologne, are not permitted.
Security
Anyone aged 14 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
