Official club edition – Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales Farewell – Boodship – 26 September 2025:

‘Thanks to the Toon Army that I have let myself be a small part of the history of your club. My time as a CEO has been shorter than I had planned, but you have filled all three years with beautiful memories.

In 2023 you changed London to Newcastle-Upon-Thams and you threw one of the largest parties that Trafalgar Square has seen (and then clear it all).

You got up and sang your hearts at Wembley when the final of the Carabao Cup started, and even stopped when the clock counted down to beat.

You screamed loud enough to be heard in Paris when two local boys scored in St. James’ Park in the 4-1 Bonnnissen of PSG.

You laughed and joked while you waited for a bus to Sunderland at 7 am, and still laughed 7 hours later when the team posed for their victory photo.

Last season you saw history being made when Big Dan Burn that header scored, and Bruno lifted the first domestic trophy of the club for 70 years.

You showed up in the hundreds of thousands to celebrate – Pack the streets, create Geordie Layer Cakes from parking garages and the city of Moor swarms with children on your shoulders and ‘Blaydon races’ in the air.

And last week you welcomed Champions League football for the second time in three seasons with another spectacular and exciting WOR flag vision.

Thank you to Eddie, the coaching staff and the players for offering some of the most intense and entertaining football I have seen. It was a privilege to work with you and view you, week in and week out.

Thank you to the NUFC employees, who have made all the great public moments possible through their passion, discipline, cooperation and thousands of hours of hard work in the background. You have been great colleagues.

Thank you to the Newcastle United Foundation for all the great work you do for our community, from mentoring and job training to make football accessible to everyone. It was a privilege to be a trustee.

Thank you to David Hopkinson for taking over the CEO role with enthusiasm. I look forward to seeing NUFC continuing with his exciting upward process under your stewardship.

Thank you to the property for your vision and support for the club as a whole, and for your support for me personally, especially during my last few months with medical leave.

Thank you to the great NHS staff of the Freeman Hospital for your professionalism, cheerfulness and kindness. I am lucky to continue my treatment under your care.

Every time I walk along the signs for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Center in the Freeman, I am reminded of how integral this club is for the community. This club is about football and more than football. To quote the great man himself: “It is the noise, the passion, the feeling of connectedness, the pride in your city.”

Thank you for allowing me to share that passion, pride and sense of solidarity.

HWTL! ‘
