New York | Renewed us open mixed Doubles falls short

With the renewed US Open Mixed Doubles event just a few days away, the field is decimated by withdrawal and partner switching while the cut deadline looms on Sunday, so much that even in this late stage there are spaces that still have to be filled in the field.

When it was announced for the first time in the spring, just about everyone who registered someone to play the event again, that a prizes for price fee of $ 1 million offered, except Coco Gauff, that is, the 2023 US Open Singles Champion who, from the beginning, said she would make the 16-Team event that of 19-20.

Jessica Pegula was planned to play with colleague -American Tommy Paul, while Jack Draper van Groot -Britain was coupled to Paula Badosa, but both partners also withdrew, so that Pegula and Draper were also looking for new partners, and they have since collaborated to access the area of 16 teams.

The other wild cards have been transferred to Emma Raducu & Carlos Alcaraz, Madison Keys & Frances Tiafoe, Olga Danilovic & Novak Djokovic, Taylor Townsend & Ben Shelton and Venus Willy & Reile Opelka.

Two more wild cards are still on the table next to the direct access place that has been opened, and Groot-Britain’s Katie Boulter & Alex have loaded the Minaur to be admitted to the field, while there are several players outside the Sinner, who can also be forced to change their plans, including Iga Swiatk and Elena Rybakina, who for a Canninnat.

Paolini could also extend her stay in Mason, Ohio with a semi -final against Veronika Kudermetova to still play in Cincy.

This year, the mixed event will be moved from the third week of the US Open, the traditional place on the calendar, to the first week – open fan week – enabling to compete tops stars together and to give this Grand Slam Championship, including coverage of broadcasting rights.

Other improvements for this year’s event will be:

  • A players’ field with 16 teams-8 teams that earn direct access based on their combined singles ranking and 8 wildcard entries.
  • $ 1 million in prize money for the US Open Mixed Doubles Champions (Team)
  • The best-of-three-set competitions with short sets up to 4 games, no-ad scoring, tiebreaks on 4-all and a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a third set.
  • The final will be a best-of-three set-match for 6 games, with no-ad-score, with tiebreaks on 6-all and a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a third set.

All matches played in Arthur Ashe Stadium or Louis Armstrong Stadium.
