The New York Rangers need to sell Artemi Panarin and other players
Jim Biringer of NHLRumors.com, Full Press NHL and RG Media joined TSN Radio in Montreal on Monday and was asked about the direction of the New York Rangers. Will players like Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and a few others be moved?

NHL Rumors: Could the New York Rangers Be Sellers?
Host: “I’m glad you went to the Rangers because that would be my second question. I can’t even remember if Sean Campbell remembers bringing up Artemi Panarin’s name as someone who could intrigue the Canadiens, and we did that a few months ago. It was, I’m not going to say it was Sean’s good choice, but we were just throwing out names. But he no longer has a firm term on this deal.”
Zibanejad has from what I’ve read a very, very, no move, no nothing clause. But also for Zibanejad, how much of the end of your career do you want to spend as a salesperson, a resident or away from the playoffs?
So you think Zibanejad would waive the movement clause to go to a team that can compete and to Panarin because of his contract situation, which he is out of contract going forward. I’m thinking, do the Rangers make him available to the masses?
NHL Rumors: New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers
Jim Biringer: “I mean, I think Panarin is also a million-dollar question because I think they had some contract negotiations over the summer, but they really couldn’t work it out. And he’s coming off an $11.7 million contract. They don’t want to pay him that again. They don’t want to go long-term. Are they trying to find a place somewhere in the middle of the meeting right now? It doesn’t look like he’s going to stay in New York.”
And I think they have to decide, okay, if we don’t make the playoffs, if this downward spiral continues, we have to go to him lightly and tread water a little bit, because he’s also close to no movement, and he might just say, Hey, I don’t want to go anywhere. And then we’re stuck in the same thing we saw with Toronto, with Mitch Marner, and he’s just running for nothing.
And I don’t think the Rangers can do that considering he was a price to own when they signed them, they accelerated the rebuild last time. They have to go to him and say, okay, things aren’t going as well as we planned. Where would you like to go? What teams are on your list that you would like to go to, similar to Zibanejad? Where do you want to go?
NHL Rumors: Will Artemi Panarin Headline July 1, 2026?
That gets a little trickier at the deadline. I think if they’re going to do it, they’ll have to wait until the offseason if they decide to do it. And if he decides he doesn’t want to be a New York Ranger anymore, which all indications are now, he still wants to be with the Rangers.
But I wonder about someone like Vincent Trocheck. As with the center market as it is, it is a valuable asset. Teams would make calls about him if he became available, just like maybe a guy, a guy like Alexis Lafreniere might need a change of scenery.
“So if the Rangers really get out of this situation and they accept that they have to do the rebuild the right way this time, instead of rushing through it, there could be a mass exodus from New York.”
