NHL Rumors: New York Rangers; Panarin, Trocheck, Soucy, Schneider and Zibanejad
Ron MacLean: “Just before we move on to Dougie Hamilton, Alexis Lafreniere. First of all, Jeff Gorton picked him. So everyone’s thinking, boy, it would be ideal to see him go to Montreal. Shane Wright, you probably said he’s on the podcast.”
Elliotte Friedman: “I think they would talk about Lafreniere. But I think one of the things that happens, Ron, is that people can look at it and say, ‘Well, this is where Lafreniere is here today,’ but he’s still a number one overall pick not too long ago. And teams are always going to look at that. They’re always going to say, “Look, if we’re going to move that player, we’re going to move him with that designation.” So it’s a challenge. Who’s willing to look at it that way? to watch?”
NHL Rumors.com Note: The New York Rangers are open for business. Together with Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck, they listen to Alexis Lafreniere, the first pick of the 2020 draft. Friedman brought up the idea of a hockey trade between the Seattle Kraken and the New York Rangers on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. They would trade Shane Wright for Lafreniere. This is the kind of trade that would have to happen before the Rangers could even consider it. Drury still believes they can fix it.

NHL Rumors: The Boston Bruins are eyeing RHD. What about a Dougie Hamilton reunion?
Ron MacLean: “Dougie Hamilton?”
Elliotte Friedman: “Yeah, so Dougie Hamilton. Over the last few weeks, he’s been the big name that we’ve all been talking about. Luke Hughes got injured and he’s going to be out. He’s trying to come back without having surgery, so he’s going to be out for a while. And what that’s done is the Dougie Hamilton Derby has come to a standstill. Now, I don’t think it’s impossible. I think if the Devils, somebody came to the Devils with something that they couldn’t say no to, they would do it. But for now the Devils played him very well, so that slowed it down.
NHL Rumors.com Note: While the New Jersey Devils are still looking to free up cap spaceThey’ve seen Dougie Hamilton record seven assists in the six games he’s played in since making a healthy scratch against the Winnipeg Jets two weeks ago. Now the Devils have won five of six games with him back in the lineup.
However, General Manager Tom Fitzgerald is still looking for it improve his hockey club for the play-offs. Hamilton still has value to many teams, but the $7.4 million signing bonus is a factor, as is Luke Hughes’ injury. Hughes will be out for a while and surgery is not out of the question. Again, they need a “Yes offer.” to do it and need a right shot defender as this would leave a hole on both sides of their defense.
This can wait until the low season.
