NHL Rumors: New York Rangers are signing Alexis Lafreniere
Host: “Dave, that’s it Alexis Lafreniere”Is the name there too?”
Dave Pagnotta: “I think it’s a bit of a stretch for that to happen now. I think the Rangers would be open to exploring that. I think they’re open to it now, but I just think the size of that particular deal is more likely to happen this offseason, not out of the question now, but there’s a willingness to listen. There’s a willingness to listen to other guys.”
Braden Schneider And Vincent Trocheck are guys who I think are very likely candidates to be moved before the trade deadline. And I’m curious too, guys, about Adam Fox and what they decide to do there. He has a complete no-move. He is currently on LTIR. He’s trying to come back. Would that be something before the deadline? Could that be something by design? Around the design? I think there is a willingness to consider these options for Rangers as well. But this is another scenario where I think he and Lafreniere are likely summer moves if they happen.

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens and Young Trade Asset Tiers
Host: “Patrick Laine practices with the team on the ice. Normal jersey, good to do. Canadiens don’t have a roster spot. They’re healthy, so they have to move a body to get him on the roster, otherwise the Canadiens just don’t really have a spot for him even if he’s healthy, and they can’t fit him into a lineup that wins more games than it loses.
Is there any sense of a possible Laine move here at the deadline, not this one, but maybe the actual deadline in March? Is there anything outside of Montreal that this name pops up?
Dave Pagnotta: “Interesting, I mean, I’ve wondered this too, where he fits in with this group. Especially now that the second line of (Juraj) Slafkovsky, (Oliver) Kapanen and (Ivan) Demidov has been so successful and clicking. Obviously the Habs would like to find someone who can have that kind of chemistry with (Cole) Caulfield and (Nick) Suzuki.”
NHL Rumors: The Montreal Canadiens are still looking to add to their roster
(Kirby) Dach is here now, evening scored. Would you give Laine that chance? I think if you explore the possibility of moving it. You’re looking at a) teams that have sufficient cap space. I don’t know if the Canadiens, I mean, has an expiring contract. I don’t know if they necessarily want to give it away. I don’t understand that feeling at all. But where is he on that list?
I think they would rather, I think the preference would be, and this could be fun, there could be teams looking at this scenario, well, we have the maximum space, we can try to make this work. We like the player. Let’s give it a try here. But I think the Canadiens still feel that if he’s healthy, this could be someone that would definitely benefit the roster, and can we find the right fit if he’s playing at the top now, then we’ll see
Anyway. I think you have to do that, he has to get some games in, and they have to figure out how to make that happen so they can even consider that possibility.
