New Wolves Manager appointed as official announcement made

Ten days after the dismissal of Vitor Pereira, Premier League club Wolves have secured a new manager.

An official statement (see below) revealing that Rob Edwards is now in charge at Molineux.

Boro are clearly unhappy that after just 14 Championship games in charge, Edwards has made it clear he was determined to become the new Wolves manager.

In the crazy world of Premier League managers, Wolves appoint someone who ‘mutually’ decided with the club to leave Luton in January (2025), when he was 20th in the Championship and sank like a stone towards League One.

Middlesbrough then gave Rob Edwards a decent level job, despite what happened with Luton, and after just fifteen league games, with just two wins in his most recent eight Championship games, Edwards was given a Premier League post.

But it’s fair to him: Rob Edwards was signed by the club on a three-and-a-half-year contract as the new Wolves Manager.

What do you think are the chances of him seeing that???

Wolves officially announcement – November 12, 2025:

Rob Edwards is the new head coach of Wolves, having signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to begin his fourth spell at the club.

The former Old Gold defender has achieved impressive success in management in recent years. He earned promotions at Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town – to the Premier League – while making a positive start to this Championship season with Middlesbrough.

Born in Telford, Edwards’ affinity with Wolves first started in 2004. He made 111 appearances in four seasons at the club, most notably in the center of defense under Mick McCarthy.

Edwards, who was capped 15 times by Wales, later enjoyed spells at Blackpool – where he was promoted to the Premier League as a player – and Barnsley, and took his first steps into coaching at Wolves under-18s in 2014.

Within a year he was working under Kenny Jackett as first-team coach, and in October 2016 he took charge of two first-team matches on an interim basis, following Walter Zenga’s time at Molineux.

After an initial taste of senior management at AFC Telford United, Edwards once again returned to Wolves as head coach under-23s and won a first promotion to the top level of youth football for the club.

Time coaching within the Football Association followed, as did an initial success in senior management at Forest Green, after winning the League Two title in 2022, before a brief spell at Watford.

It was at Luton where Edwards made his first Premier League appearance, having successfully guided the Hatters through the Championship play-offs in May 2023 and earning plaudits in the top flight.

Now Edwards returns to Wolves on the back of a positive start to the season at Middlesbrough, who he leaves second in the Championship.

Jeff Shi said: “I know Rob very well and I have seen his growth in different jobs. He is a very good person, he knows the club very well, he knows the city, the fans and he is very talented. When he was a youth coach here he showed his tactical acumen, but after taking first-team jobs he started to develop his own identity, character and leadership.”

“We need to refresh the whole club with the philosophy of a new coach, who brings his own identity and ideas, and we can build on that. We are entering a new chapter for the club and Rob will be an important part of that.”

Matt Jackson said: “Rob and his staff have previously shown that they can be very good at changing the culture, quickly building trust with players and laying the foundations for a really positive future. He loves being on the grass and changing a team, embracing the tactics of different situations.”

“The energy he brings off the pitch we need to get onto the pitch. We need to be realistic about where we are, and we certainly need to be held to account. We need to quickly get that belief into the players now and think that Rob will be great culturally for the whole football club.”

Edwards will be joined at the club by Harry Watling, who takes on the role of assistant head coach. After nine years in academy football, Watling gained managerial experience at Hartford Athletic in the US and Ebbsfleet United last year before joining Edwards’ team in Middlesbrough. More backroom staff will be confirmed in the near future.
