O’Shea, who has been associated with the sport for 50 years, mainly as a trainer and driver, will offer a single entry in a bay colt of the NZ 3YO and 4YO of the Year Ultimate Machete out of the Art Major mare Classytoff.
It is Lot 33.
The colt is the second foal from Classytoff. The first is the three-year-old filly Feelin Forastar (by Mr Feelgood), who recently finished second at Redcliffe.
O’Shea bought Classytoff online as a late three-year-old in Victoria.
“She won one race for us and was beaten a few times in 1:56 at Albion Park,” O’Shea said.
“She is bred well enough to produce something quite useful.”
Classytoff belongs to a strong New Zealand family that has produced horses of the caliber of Queensland Derby winner Franco Jonquill, Miracle Mile prelude winner Franco Jazzman and The Gigolo.
Ultimate Machete, the father of Lot 33has a creditable success rate of 66 percent in his first three Australian harvests. They include Redcliffe Sales Classic winner Sinabun, Miss Idaho (Vic. Youthful and SA Golden Nursery), Miss Hepburn (WA Country Oaks) and Tasmanian Sires Stakes winners Cuzzy Bro and Smooth Machete.
“He is a very nice character, strongly built and quite intelligent,” said taxidermist Margaret Donohoe of Monarch Farm.
O’Shea trained and raced a small team as a hobby.
“The best horse I had was Dan’s Gift. I bought him as a three-year-old in Sydney and went on to win Horse of the Year with him at Albion Park,” Errol said.
O’Palent Princess, an ex-Victorian who won six races in quick succession in Queensland, and Albion Park winners Justa Rebel and Memsaab’s Mist were other handy performers trained by O’Shea.
