New Gulf of Geelong Tiny Home Builders offer young buyers Hope – realestate.com.au

After years of traveling from the world, Ayla Rose sees a small house as her ticket to finally secure her own place.

The Aireys inlet Woman is waiting for the construction of its first compact home, which will be built on wheels for the break the costs of a traditional house.

“Being minimalist and having a small space appeals to me because large houses can be quite difficult to take care of and they can be quite expensive,” she said.

“At the younger end of the Millennials, for our generation it is so difficult to get to a housing market and the other alternative is that you rent for a large part of your life.

“For me it all comes down to simplicity.”

She is one of a growing number of younger Australians who turn to portable and modular houses to combat the affordability crisis of the home.

Builder Jason O’Neill brings her design to life after she recently made the switch from building larger adapted houses to the small home sector with the launch of his small luxury house assortment.

He said that delivering quality, tailor -made small houses can be a game exchanger for young people who are priced from the real estate market.

They can expect to pay between $ 70,000 and $ 180,000 for one of his designs, which vary from 11.5 m² to 21 square meters m.

“Let’s say they spent $ 100,000 to $ 150,000 on a small house-it is actually a caravan on the Markt-Ze pay,” said Mr. O’Neill.

The design will be one of the more than 30 houses, including the shipping container and modular grandmother apartments, on the event, which runs from Friday 5 September to Sunday 7 September.

Expo organizer Phae Barrett said that small houses could be completed in just four weeks.

“I get a lot of comments that it would be as if you were living in a caravan, but I can’t start telling you how non-caravany they are,” said Mrs. Barrett.

“They really have furniture and they are much more homely … you will be stunned about how luxurious the small houses are.”

She said that the biggest challenge was to find a suitable country for people to park their small houses, with councils that slowly board.

The Surf Coast Shire launched a small house test at the end of 2023, but had minimal admission, with only five permits so far.

Placemaking and environment -generally director Chris Pike said that this could be possible to the Victorian government that introduces a streamlined approach to small second homes shortly after the process started.

He said that the provisional finding pointed to other possible deterrents, including the extra costs for managing waste water.

“It is unlikely that small houses are an independent solution for the affordability of housing or challenges in the field of staff, but they can be worth considering as part of a wider mix of housing options,” said Pike.
