New GST rates for bicycles and scooters: from Triumph, Bullet, Harley to Bajaj, check what becomes cheaper and becomes more expensive

The Council of Goods and Services Tax (GST) has approved a major change in tax plates that will make two -wheelers cheaper at entry level and at the same time impose a higher levy on larger vehicles. The new rates will take effect from September 22, the first day of Navratri. Two -wheelers with engine capacity under 350 cc will attract 18 percent GST, a decrease of 28 percent. This includes almost 98 percent of the Indian motorcycle market. Motorcycles above 350cc, including models in the 450cc and 650cc categories, will be confronted with a burden of 40 percent described as a ‘sander’.
