New Delhi was selected as a host city for the Badminton World Championships in August 2026, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced on Monday.The most prestigious sport tournament will return to India after 17 years, with Hyderabad organized it in 2009. The announcement came during the closing ceremony of the 2025 championships in Paris, where a symbolic transfer took place between BWF president Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, Federation Francaise de Badminton Chief Frank Laurent, and Badminton Association of India Miskra.“We assure that India will give nothing less than 100 percent to maintain and continue the same standards of excellence and grandeur that Paris has shown. We look forward to welcome the badminton family in Delhi, “said Mishra in a Bai release.The Delhi edition also marks the return of the event to Asia after eight years, with the last in Nanjing, China in 2018.“For India, the re -organizing the championships emphasizes its status and both a powerhouse on the field and an important destination on the Global Badminton card,” said De Bai.The breakthrough of India in the worlds came with the bronze of Prakash Padukone in Copenhagen, followed by Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa’s Historical Ladies Double Bronze in 2011, which underlined the growing depth of the nation.At the forefront of the success of India, PV Sindhu, one of the most decorated ladies’ snackers of the tournament with five medals – is one gold, two silvers and two bronze.
