Discover the studio museum in the new Harlem building by Adjaye Associates-a bold, community-oriented design opening on November 15, 2025

The Studio Museum in Harlem has been set to open its new building of 82,000 square meters of seven floors by Adjaye employees of Cooper Robertson Late autumn 2025. The design represents the museum again and both Civic Landmark and Community Hub.

The building rises over 125th Street with a daring, brickwork facade interrupted by windows of different sizes and relationships. The composition recalls Harlem’s iconic brownstones and churches while projecting a clearly contemporary lead. At street level, glass doors open for decreasing steps that evoke the heating of local homes, which fades the line between city and institution.

Inside, generous public spaces such as the central staircase and lobby “fine” expand this openness, with viewpoints, collection areas and circulation that feel just as Civic and culturally. The architecture balances monumentality with intimacy and creates a museum that resonates both within Harlem and far beyond.

The opening starts with a community day and offers free access and construction -wide programming for all ages. Regular hours run Wednesday to Sunday, with late nights on Friday and Saturday. Admission is presented and Sunday remains free.

Inaugural exhibitions include an important presentation about Tom Lloyd, a rotating installation from the 9,000-work collection of the museum and a showcase of more than 100 alumni for artist-in-residence. Site-specific committees of Camille Nortent and Christopher Myers bring art directly into architecture.

With its new home, the Studio Museum expands its footprint and confirms its role as a cultural monument, rooted in Harlem and forms to form worldwide conversations in art and design.
