From hit songs to hit documentaries?
The documentary series ‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’, produced by rival rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, premiered on Netflix yesterday (2) and is already causing controversy.
The streaming giant was forced to defend its new documentary about disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, insisting it is “not a hit piece or an act of retaliation.”
NME reported:
“It comes after the rapper’s lawyers sent the streamer a cease and desist order before it aired, claiming that 50 Cent’s new docuseries about the disgraced artist uses ‘stolen’ footage.
The four-part show, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, was released on Netflix yesterday (December 2). It was first reported that 50 Cent – real name Curtis Jackson – was working on the documentary in 2023. He serves as executive producer on the project, which was directed by Alex Stapleton.

Diddy’s team accused Netflix of using “stolen footage that should never be released.”
The docuseries has also been called an ’embarrassing hit piece’.
Combs is said to have filmed himself for a future documentary.
“‘Sean has been making his own documentary since he was 19 years old. This footage was commissioned as part of that’, [Diddy spokesman] said in an email to CNN.
He claimed that the footage in the Netflix trailer, which was filmed six days before Combs’ arrest in September 2024, was intended for that long-term project.

Netflix commented:
“The claims about Sean Combs: The Reckoning are false. The project has no ties to previous conversations between Sean Combs and Netflix. The footage of Combs prior to his indictment and arrest was obtained legally. This is not a hit or an act of retaliation.”
Curtis Jackson is executive producer but has no creative control. No one was paid to participate.”
What a feud, I put two of his kids in my scripted TV shows. I just didn’t like him saying fruity things to me. 🤨and he said fruity shit to me, I don’t like that! LOL @50CentAction247 DEC 2 Netflix • https://t.co/WtNREs3AKy pic.twitter.com/etuuSM2Fo6
