Nester! And how you can make an attentive house – Living room Realty

We have made the coverage of Nester you all! Last year representatives came to talk to the Living Room Realty Office for the magazine. I took them after the presentation and asked, how are people picked in the magazine?! Apparently you just have to apply! I sent the publisher, Anna Zusman, and waited. And waited. To be honest, so much time passed that I forgot a bit. And even when I remembered it, I thought they would have already chosen their houses and move forward without me.

Then I received the e -mail. They wanted to give me up! I didn’t even know to what extent I would be characterized, and I was still in disbelief, even after the writer Rachel Saslow came to visit. I seriously spent 48 hours scrubbing from top to bottom for her arrival because I believed that it had to be a kind of ‘audition’. They could not seriously say that my house was worthy of magazine? Then they planned photos with Cameron Munn and the Art Director Whitney McPhie. It was 12 hours after I returned from a trip to the Bay Area and I was stressed. How can my house be good enough to be photographed?

After that I didn’t hear much. At the photo shoot I had casually (not so casually) Whitney asked how she decided the cover. “Without reason,” I said. They went on vibes, she told me. I waited two months before I even heard a look. I assumed that Cameron had lost the photos in a terrible data crash, or perhaps they have not been proven at all! When I heard it, it was a crunch time. Everything seemed very mysterious and necessary. I have not seen any photos or the article. The layout was a total mystery! Even now, when I write this, I still don’t have a copy of the magazine in my possession. I have to wait until tomorrow. The only reason I know what I know is because Willamette wanted to perform Weekly Promos for their upcoming event Nestfest and let me know that we have made the cover !!!

I look at the photos and I am so happy. I had been so imagining for the past four months, but it still feels strange that it is real. I am actually a bit obsessed with the power of manifestation, now I think! Although I like minimalist spaces, something about seeing my imperfect, loud, idiosyncratic, busy, hectic home that is displayed, brings me so much joy. On the cover there is still dog hair on the rug. The fake -adt sticker that I have in the window is still there. My annoying dogs can be seen doing their usual annoying things (Poppy, which clings me to me with fear. Roux is aloof. Clover chews on something so that she doesn’t bite or bark).

I wrote for the last time about the feeling of Imposier syndrome and how things get in my life. Seeing this in pressure as the top example of evidence of those thoughts wrong. I can do things very, very well and my house is a good example of that.

I think most houses have no soul. And maybe that’s what I refer to when I call my house weird. I put a lot of life, either through art, plants, pets, books or tchotchkes, in every corner. But that is not necessary to have a house with soul. Many minimalist houses also have soul. I think it might be more about Attent and deliberately, with the choices you make at your home.

One of the first things I ask for design clients is’How do you want to live in this space? How do you want this space to feel?“I think those questions should lead every decision you make when designing your house. I pay very little attention to the thoughts of, Will this have a good resale value? Will this trend die out soon? It’s your house. Do what you want. You try to place yourself and your vision for how you want to live in your house. Do not buy a couple of glass sculptures if you want a lively house with children or dogs. Do not buy an accent leather and wooden chair that is extremely uncomfortable and delicate for the living room where you want to organize guests (this is @ myself).

I think the most important tasks to achieve this goal are painting. I really think that most rooms have to be painted a color. Even if it is soft or subtle, choose a theme or color sets that will contain the room. Sometimes the walls can be white or cream and the upholstery can be accents, or they leave the pops of color for your bedding and art. Anyway, make sure you are thinking about the choices. Don’t just throw a blank tint white and say, “Well, everything goes with it.” It’s wrong and lazy. Sometimes white can be the explanation itself, such as in a mid -century with warm -weakened wooden paneling or daring furniture choices. Avoid gray especially. Especially in places where it is gray outside. Or places where it is always sunny, because it then draws even more attention to its boring.

As soon as you have a palette, you look for art that accentuates those colors. Sometimes the art must have some contrast, such as the daring pink in this Experimental vintage to paint. The golden frame corresponds to the yellow of the bookshelf, but there is much clear fuchsia and sea foam green to accentuate well.

Wooden bookshelf filled with plants, books and art

I love this bookshelf because of its functional nature, as well as the ability to store all my beautiful Nick-Knacks and art. Always try to place functionality at the same level or higher as a visual attraction. There is nothing more to me than a bank that looks aesthetically, but also incredibly uncomfortable. I recently laughed to a reel of someone who unveiled the bank that they waited for 4 months to be delivered. They unveiled it and it literally looked like a waiting room sofa. Yes, aesthetics are important, but do you want to give the impression to others that they are inhospitable?

In general, I think I think about choices in furniture, art, paint, carpets and everything else in your house will speak volumes about who you are as a person. I encourage you to get weird, to be loud, having fun and being loyal to yourself and perhaps you will also end up on the cover of a magazine.

Thank you for reading!
