Nelly Korda is again in a featured grouping, and this week she will play with Minjee Lee and Brooke Henderson at the FM championship in TPC Boston.
Lee won the PGA championship for women earlier this year, while Henderson won the CPKC Women’s Open on Sunday. As for Korda, the most popular player in the group? She is still looking for that first victory of the year after she is piled up seven last season.
Thursday was a step in the right direction.
Korda has fired a five-under 67 and was kept two of the leadership by Sei Young Kim, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Allisen Corpuz.
She also did it with a new putter in the bag.
On Thursday, Korda used a Taylormade Blade -Putter similar to the titleest model that she used most of last year. This also had a super lag grip, which she used before, but not often.
“Just something different than I felt,” said Korda Thurdsay. ‘Just something new. I was so successful with that head and I hit a few earlier [last week’s tournament in] Toronto. Golf courses at the moment in Florida are not the best. Just like the golf courses that I have just opened after I am closed for a month. So there was a lot of sand on it. Did not know for sure how I really liked the putter, but I just went with it. I knew I was so much successful with that kind of putter and felt confident [TaylorMade]; It is clearly also another grip. It is a above. I just chose the group of putters that I had and that I liked, and went a bit. ‘
Starting on the rear nine on Thursday, Bogey Korda the opening hole but later made four birdies in a piece of five holes. She then birds two of her last three to shoot 67 and tie her first round low point of the season.
De Putter Carousel is not exactly new for Korda. Her seventh victory of last season came with a different putter than she used for the other six victories.
Last year she won six times with a Scotty Cameron Squareback 2 before her seventh victory came with a Taylormade Spider Tour X. This year she used both a knife and a hammer.
Korda is in 20th place in obtained strokes: this season and third are in obtained strokes: total. But another important stat is her round-round-round versions. Her round 1 (69.77) and Round 2 (68.31) Scoremids are considerably better than what she strikes in the weekend: 70.39 in round 3 and 71.00 in round 4. Her round 1 and 2 score sides rank on the LPGA Tour, while her round 4 scored average 47th.
