NBA hires the law firm to investigate Kawhi Leonard scandal – the same that it used for Donald Sterling

The NBA takes the Kawhi Leonard-Clippers-Koetkeurment scandal seriously.

The competition hired the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz to investigate accusations that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and Leonard bypassed the salary limit with a marketing agreement of $ 28 million with a company called Aspiration, The athletics reported Friday.

Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz is the same law firm that hired the competition to investigate the former Clippers owner Donald Sterling and ex-Suns owner Robert Sarver, who both had to deal with misconduct before their office mines ended.

The allegations first emerged in an episode of the podcast “Pablo Torre Find out” on Wednesday, who reported that the environmental start-up-a-part was financed by an investment of $ 50 million from Ballmer-Leonard for a four-year approval agreement.

Some former aspiration employees who had worked in the financial department told Torre that the deal was seen as a way for the clippers to work around the salary limit of the competition.

The clippers denied the allegations shortly after the episode made rounds on the internet.

“Nor Mr Ballmer, nor the clippers, did the salary hood bypass or were concerned with any misconduct with regard to aspiration,” the team said in a statement. “Every opposite statement is demonstrably incorrect: the team ended his relationship with Aspiration years ago, during the 2022-23 season, when aspiration was in default about his obligations. Neither the clippers nor Mr Ballmer was aware of any incorrect activity by aspiration or his co-founder until the government had started his investigation.

“The team and Mr. Ballmer are ready to help the police in every possible way.”

Ballmer told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne at the end of Thursday evening that he had “embarrassed” through the news, but denied every misconduct, and stated that he was restricted by the company.

“I didn’t have a board. I had no control. Heck, it was a fraudulent company. It is possible that nobody had any control,” he said.

After Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz’s 2014 research into Sterling for racial insensitive remarks, the civilized former Clippers owner was banned from the NBA.

Sarver, who was examined for inappropriate behavior in 2022, sold the Suns after being suspended by the competition for a year.
