An NBA executive sharply criticized Klutch Sports founder Rich Paul for recent comments about the Los Angeles Lakers, calling them detrimental to team chemistry. Paul, who represents LeBron James, Bronny James, Jarred Vanderbilt and Adou Thiero, suggested on his podcast that the Lakers trade Austin Reaves for Jaren Jackson Jr. and said the team is not currently a championship contender.
The director told me Lakers daily”I have no idea what Rich does… We’ve never seen an agent of a star player do a podcast while the star player is still playing and say such bizarre things.” He added: “Everyone knows LeBron loves Austin, so why is Rich saying this? He ruined the Lakers’ good vibes. This team will never recover from this. It’s going to be ugly.”
Reaves, 27, is currently sidelined due to an injury suffered on Christmas Day against the Houston Rockets. Luka Doncic leads the team with 33.6 points, 8.7 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. Reaves’ own averages this season are 26.6 points and 6.3 assists in 23 games.
The director called Paul’s trade suggestion “one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard anyone say,” noting that it could worsen the existing disconnect in the locker room. Forward Jake LaRavia previously highlighted internal challenges, and the director speculated they may be related to Paul’s comments.
The Lakers are currently sixth in the Western Conference at 25-16. Reaves’ return timeline remains unclear, complicating rotations for coach JJ Redick.
LeBron James, 41, remains central to the Lakers’ leadership, but sources within the organization are concerned that Paul’s comments could increase internal distractions.
