A special national revision of the election roles is expected to start by October, says sources in the election committee. The preparations for the exercise were discussed during a meeting of the most important election officials (CEOs) from all states and trade union areas on Wednesday, where the proposal received a green light.
The water level panel recently carried out a similar overhaul of voter role in Bihar prior to the elections of the state meeting. That process will now be expanded to cover all states and trade union areas.
According to sources, the announcement for the special intensive overhaul (SIR) could even come before the Bihar elections conclude. During the conference-cum workshop, CEOs were asked how quickly they could be ready for the overhaul. Most officials assured the committee that basic basic work would be completed by September, so that the road was cleared for a launch of October.
The day -long meeting, which included presentations of more than three and a half hours, was aimed at logistics and preparations for SIR. The election committee has also commissioned the CEOs of the State to draw up a list of documents that can be used to verify voters during the revision, says sources. These would be based on locally accepted and easily available certificates, which vary between regions.
For example, states with tribal populations, which, in the northeastern and coastal areas, often have unique documents for identity and resistance resistance. Regional autonomous councils and local authorities also issue certificates in various places that are generally recognized. The committee has asked states to take these variations into account while the verification process is completed.
The election committee said that the main objective of the special intensive revision is to clean up the voter lists by removing names of the deceased, people who have been permanently moved, duplicate entries or non-citizens, while they also ensure that any eligible voter is included.
