Last Saturday night, Natalia Silva picked up one of the biggest wins of her career when she defeated former two-time UFC champion Rose Namajunas. The win brings her closer to a shot at the world championship, and if she gets it, she will face the great Valentina Shevchenko.

We had heard before the fight that the winner would likely get the chance to face Shevchenko, but more people were focused on the possibility of it being Namajunas. Now the conversation has shifted to what Silva can potentially produce.
During her post-fight press conference appearance, Silva was quite adamant in her belief that she was now about to get that phone call.

“That’s what was supposed to happen, and that’s what the UFC told me – that I was going to get a title fight,” Silva said through an interpreter at her UFC 324 post-fight press conference. “Listen: I accepted the fight when the UFC called. I don’t know what happened to Alexa. My understanding is that she was injured and couldn’t be here, and (I fought) was to save the event.”
“When the UFC called me and said, ‘This is what you’re going to do,’ I didn’t have to accept this fight. I accepted this fight on short notice. There wasn’t much time to prepare for it. I accepted the fight, I did what I had to do, and I expected and trusted the UFC — and I hope they keep that promise because I should be the next to fight for the title. That’s the fight I expect to get.”
“My birthday is coming up. It’s on February 3,” Silva said. “That would be a great gift. I think Dana should give it to me as a gift because think about it: I accepted this fight on short notice, at high risk. I did what I had to do. It would be a great birthday gift to get the call to fight Valentina at the White House.”
