Right now, Nassourdine Imavov is one of the clear contenders for a shot at Khamzat Chimaev’s UFC middleweight title. But following Sean Strickland’s win over Anthony Hernandez last weekend, the controversial American has also brilliantly positioned himself for another attempt at gold.

Of course, Strickland is much more outspoken than Imavov, and there’s a good chance he’ll be called up for the next title shot – especially considering his ongoing rivalry with Chimaev. Still, Nassourdine won’t go away quietly, and he knows he’s put himself in a great spot thanks to his last few wins.
In a recent interview, Imavov said the following about his future.

“If it happens, how I’ll handle it is, like I said to the UFC, I just want to fight for the title,” Imavov said. “I only want to fight for the title. So that’s my point: the only fight I want, and I think I deserve it, and everyone knows I deserve it, it’s for the title. So it doesn’t matter. We’ll see how we’ll react, but of course, like I said, I [told] Mick and Hunter, that the only fight I want is the title, and that’s all I expect. Nothing else.
“I showed everything. I showed that I can be an active fighter like the UFC likes to do. Like I told you: five fights [in] 18 months against all the top 10 guys. I showed I can finish, guys. I finished Adesanya, I’m done [Jared] Cannonier in the last five fights. And so I showed that the only place I belong is in the title fight, and that’s it. And then we’ll see what they do, but like I said, I’m not changing my mind.
“All I deserve is the title, and I’m willing to fight for the title, and that’s it. I’m in the UFC for the title, nothing else, no awareness or no money or anything. I’m here for the title.”
