Myles Turner says Pacers have ‘changed their minds’ about re-signing him

Milwaukee Bucks center Myles Turner was a recent guest on Thanasis Antetokounmpo’ Thanalysis Show. One of the topics discussed was why Turner left the Indiana Pacers for the Bucks this offseason. Turner said he was originally told the Pacers would take care of him if he became a free agent.

“Pascal was in a contract year. TJ McConnell was in a contract year. Aaron Nesmith was in a contract year. I could go down the list, but if you go through that, we had a great run. Everyone was taken care of. Everyone got paid because we won,” Turner said. “The next year we surpassed what we did, we went to the finals. And all everyone said to me was, ‘Myles, keep your head down. Keep your head down and work. You’re going to be taken care of.'”

Turner said Indiana’s front office changed its mind after the team reached the NBA Finals. In the wake of Tyrese Haliburton’s injury, the Pacers opted to go in a different direction from the old starting center.

“Then the unfortunate situation happens in the finale with Tyrese, and I think the front office and the ownership changed their minds,” Turner told Antetokounmpo. “It was like, ‘Yes… we told you all those things. And yes… you helped us get to the Eastern Conference Finals and the Finals… but… we had to turn around.’ That was basically the sentiment. And we were just very far apart on what we thought the future should be.”

Turner signed a four-year, $108.8 million contract with Milwaukee. This came after the Bucks partially freed up the cap space by waiving Damian Lillard’s salary.
