  • Myles Lewis-Skelly played 39 first team matches in his Breakout Arsenal-season
  • The 18-year-old has only a year left to walk on his current Gunners contract
  • He is now expected to sign a new long-term deal in North London this summer

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly reportedly agreed a new deal with the North London club.

The 18-year-old was one of the clear tones of a frustrating campaign for the Gunners.

He only made his senior debut in September, but ended the campaign as an important player in front of Mikel Arteta and earned his first cap for England.

The versions of Lewis-Skelly saw him mentioned on the six-member shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award on Thursday and great things are now expected from him in the coming years.

The teenager only had one year to his first professional contract and there was some concern for the Arsenal believers after recent reported interest from Real Madrid.

However, those fears have been removed with the BBC who claim that he is aware of a new contract with the Emirates.

His new deal will come up with a considerable wage increase, whereby the young person commits his future to the club in the long term.

During his Breakout season, Lewis-Skelly played in 39 first team matches for Arsenal, including 23 in the Premier League.

He scored his first senior goal in February during a 5-1 win over Manchester City, before he marked it by imitating the characteristic celebration of Erling Haaland.

However, it was not a perfect campaign for Lewis-Skelly. He was sent away twice, in defeats by Wolves and West Ham. The first red card from Lewis-Skelly was later withdrawn by appeal.

Arteta, however, thought it was necessary to give him up to prevent the prospect of a third dismissal after he had been shown a yellow card-one of the six for the season-in Arsenal’s 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in March.

Lewis-Skelly is now enjoying his vacation after his third performance for England earlier this month in the 3-1 defeat against Senegal.

He quickly became a favorite of fans after he came through the Hale End Academy of the club.
