Myanmar concluded the men’s sitting volleyball competition at the ASEAN Para Games Thailand 2025 on Sunday with a straight-sets victory over Indonesia, securing the gold medal as the medal matches concluded in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The gold medal match capped a closely contested tournament in which Myanmar and Indonesia emerged as the top two teams after the double round-robin preliminary stage. Less than 24 hours after Indonesia handed Myanmar its only defeat in the competition, Myanmar produced a composed and authoritative performance with the title on the line, beating Indonesia 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) to claim the gold medal.

Myanmar set the tone early in the final, establishing control in the opening set before maintaining their rhythm in two closely contested frames. Indonesia remained competitive, especially in the second set, but Myanmar’s consistency in both attack and defense proved decisive as they closed the match without conceding a set. The win secured Myanmar’s fourth gold medal in men’s sitting volleyball at the ASEAN Para Games and marked a return to the top of the podium after missing out on gold at the previous two editions in Solo and Phnom Penh respectively.

Indonesia finished with the silver medal after another strong campaign in Nakhon Ratchasima. After beating Myanmar in their final preliminary meeting on Saturday evening, Indonesia went into the gold medal match with momentum but could not replicate that result in the final. With the silver medal, Indonesia finished second in the men’s sitting volleyball event at the ASEAN Para Games, underscoring their continued presence among the leading teams in the region.

Earlier on Sunday, hosts Thailand claimed the bronze medal with a straight-sets win over the Philippines. Thailand controlled the opening stages of the bronze medal match, taking the first two sets comfortably before finishing a tighter third place to secure a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 26-24) win and a place on the podium in front of the home crowd.

In the final rankings, Myanmar took gold, Indonesia took silver, Thailand took bronze and the Philippines finished fourth. All four teams took part in a men’s sitting volleyball tournament that followed a double round-robin format before progressing to the medal matches, with competition held throughout the week in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Sitting volleyball has been part of the ASEAN Para Games program since 2009, with medals in the men’s competition historically shared among a small group of countries. Myanmar’s victory in Thailand cemented their long-standing position at the forefront of the sport in South East Asia, while Indonesia and Thailand once again demonstrated the depth and competitiveness of the regional field.
