Sandro Tonali has made headlines.
The Italy international found himself at the center of a media frenzy on transfer window deadline day, claiming he was leaving Newcastle United, possibly for Arsenal.
Both Eddie Howe and Sandro Tonali made it clear that this was never a possibility, that their sole focus, as manager and player, was to ensure this would be a successful Newcastle United season.
Despite this, you get the media and even some Newcastle United fans claiming that there is no smoke without fire.
That would only delay the supposed inevitable: Sandro Tonali would leave St. James’ Park in the near future.
Some media even come up with embarrassing lies that the relationship between Sandro Tonali and Eddie Howe was broken.
After helping United to a 2-1 away win at Spurs on Tuesday, Sandro Tonali was even better on Saturday, scoring twice and being the main man as Newcastle United overwhelmed Aston Villa to march into the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Sandro Tonali would now like to emphasize what the reality is…“After the second goal I ended up with Eddie Howe because people were talking about our relationship in recent weeks. But I work with the gaffer every day, the gaffer works with me every day, and our relationship is perfect. The relationship is not broken and I think this is perfect for the team. We try to do the best for this team every game, because we play a lot of games, we play every three days, and on the training pitch we have to be focused every time to do the best for our team.”
On Saturday, Sandro Tonali was the only one of THAT Newcastle United midfield trio involved.
Joelinton will hopefully be back soon, but Bruno Guimaraes will be missing for a while.
Sandro Tonali about his captain: “Bruno is one of our best players; our best player to score, the best player for recovery balls, he is the key for us and we miss him, because it is difficult when you lose a player… Bruno will come back. He is a top player for us and we need him. But every player here, we take responsibility for everything, not only until Bruno comes back, but also if Bruno comes back, we will take the same responsibility, because we need every player here in this team – and especially Bruno because he is one of our players is.” the best players at Newcastle.”
The performance and result were a huge boost for many reasons.
Not least because Newcastle United played so well without Bruno Guimaraes, and because Eddie Howe had eight first-team players he could not call on.
Sandro Tonali tells official media club: “We probably played the best football of our season. I put this match against Everton and Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League. I think this is one of the three best games for us this season. It is important for the team because it is the second win in a row, and for me it is important because it is the first two goals of my season. I started a little late, but every time you score, your game and your day is different!”
A big bonus at the end when United’s pressure forced a third goal.
Nick Woltemade scored double goals for the season and Sandro Tonali was so happy for the Germany international: “I’m especially happy for Nick (Woltemade). He played as a midfielder and he played very well and he scored the last goal. And I’m happy for every player, for every staff member, for all the fans. It was a great match; we played very well. This match is so important because we have one dream: to return to Wembley.”
The match against Aston Villa was marred by shabby match officials as a series of big decisions went against Newcastle United.
It’s a good thing United won, otherwise it would have been an even bigger story of incompetence making headlines.
Sandro Tonali takes it his way: “The first half we conceded a goal, probably offside, but there is no VAR here and for the referee it is so difficult after every game with VAR. We accept the mistake, it is human… But we played very well, with courage. Every pass was positive and in fact everything was positive, from the starters to the players who came off the bench.”
More than 6,500 Newcastle United fans in the away match witnessed this FA Cup victory.
Sandro Tonali appreciates the support: “It’s crazy. The fans have been incredible. I don’t have words for it, but every away game our fans are the best – really, every game… it was like playing at St. James’ Park. They pushed us for the whole 90 minutes and for us it’s another player on the pitch. We love playing with these fans, we love playing away games with a lot of fans. I want to thank everyone.”
