My Man Peter turns the tables in the Philly thriller

2 minutes, 50 seconds Read

CHESTER PA – The Uncle Peter gelding My Man Peter couldn’t quite catch pacer Little Expensive during last Sunday’s $16,000 fast trot at Harrah’s Philadelphia; this week My Man Peter went over first with Little Expensive on his back, but still came with the strength to take a 1:53.2 win.

George Napolitano Jr. did not hesitate to send the favorite My Man Peter raw from fifth place to pressure leader Resolve To Win, who took the lead after a quarter of :27.3 and was given a brief respite to a half of :56.4. But My Man Peter was relentless in his pursuit, not gaining much of the lead after a time of 1:25.2 in three quarters, and then finishing the mile strongly (own last half: 55.3), with Little Expensive second best on the day, 2¼ lengths behind the winner of four of his last six, who is trained by Per Engblom for Morrison Racing Stables.

MY MAN PETER REPLAY

The top pacer purse offered on the weekend card was $13,500, for up-and-coming younger men. This was won by Papi Rob Hanover’s second-year gelding War No More, who went a step further in the class to set a new lifetime mark of 1:53 as he made it two in a row. War No More pushed Shining Moment’s pace for most of a quarter of :26.4, then had the golden journey when the favorite RJ’s Red Devil came raw near the half of :56, confusing the leader all the way to and beyond the three-quarter mark of 1:24.2.

This couple was tired after their efforts; Anthony Napolitano pulled War No More out of the pocket down the stretch, and just in time, as Bettor Safe (and Anthony’s brother George) got going late, but War No More crossed the wire half a length ahead. Deborah Daguet trains the winner for Todd’s Auto.

Fast pacers put up quite a battle in a $13,000 match. Favorite Belmont Royale N was parked at a quarter of :27.1 to bypass Mad Max Hanover; I Did It Myway, who was sitting third, thought about a quarter move, but stayed seated. He then advanced to the pocket when Mad Max pulled Hanover out of the two-hole and challenged to a:56 half and a 1:24 three-quarter.

In the process it came down to the pacer and pocketitter, and I Did It Myway, a son of Captain treacheroushad the most on the inside and took the favorite leader by a neck in 1:52.1. Anthony Napolitano also got the winning wheel behind this $1,430,650 winner (and victorious life in more than a third of his starts, 37 for 107) for trainer Travis Alexander and the combination of David Hamm, EVM Racing LLC and Glenn Phillips.

The track’s 2025 1-2 winning drivers, Tim Tetrick and George Napolitano Jr, won at least three races on each of the three cards this week; they shared the grumpy honors on Thursday and Sunday, but Tetrick had five on Friday to take the crown of the week. Trainer Enrico Robinson also scored a triple on Sunday.

Racing resumes Thursday at 12:25 p.m. at Harrah’s Philadelphia; the usual fall schedule of Thursday and Friday at 12:25 p.m. and Sunday at 12:40 p.m. will remain in effect this week, and then the holiday live pattern will change in the final two weeks of the 2025 season.
