I’ve postponed the inevitable long enough. I’m putting my clubs away today after a good cleaning. I postponed this last step of my golf season because the weather is beautiful. Unfortunately, other life matters are getting in the way and I have decided to close the books on my 2025 golf season. As the sad time comes, I like to look back on my season to determine if there is a way to improve my game in the upcoming golf season. I look at many different aspects of my game and conclude a few things that may or may not be surprising to you.
As I clean my equipment, I like to see if anything needs to be replaced. Apart from a few handles, which I will replace in the winter, my equipment is still in excellent condition. I don’t need to change anything, but I’m looking for something different for next year, but I’ll talk about that this winter after I think about it a bit more. More to come on this subject.
I look at how I played last year. This year was nothing great. I did have a few low scores and won a few matches, but there was nothing spectacular about my year. Winning the last two matches against my friend Mike was nice (bragging rights continue), but I didn’t have a week of two low scores like in previous years. Maybe it was the 5 weeks of enforced rest before hernia surgery in June, but I don’t like pointing fingers.
On the positive side, our Men’s Night team has done very well this year. We were often in a lot of money and that’s always fun. Mike (different from above), Barrie and Charlie are great playing partners and I really enjoyed playing with them every Thursday. It’s always fun to play golf with friends.
I had fun playing with my hickory sticks this year. I missed a few events due to my surgery and vacation, but I will try to play more next year. They are a lot of fun to use and it opens up a new facet of golf for me. In short, this is an area I would like to explore further next year.
Well, that’s it for now. I had a good season and I don’t regret it for a moment. As I put away my clubs, I remain grateful that I can still play. My gratitude towards golf continues to grow as it helps me navigate many other aspects of my life. Goodbye 2025 and hello to my upcoming 2026 golf season.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
