JJ Tracy and Robert Cash

During the US Open I had the opportunity to talk to the Spring NCAA Doubles champions Robert Cash and JJ Tracy by Ohio State for the first time since they claimed that title in Stillwater Oklahoma. It often takes a few years before Top College Doubled Players find a Pro partner and get their way on the ATP tour, but cash and tracy reached an ATP final less than two months after winning the NCAAs. In our conversation for This article at tennis recruitment networkI asked them about their immediate success and why they think that so much of the top at pubel players have a university background. I spoke with them before they reached the semi-final in New York, but after their three-nece-breaker profit at no. 7 seeds Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli, they were clearly convinced that they could beat everyone in the trek, and now both are in the Top 40 of the ATP rankings fewer 16 months removed from that NCAA title.
Friday is the qualification day on the ITA All-American Championships, with the players who win their third round races that automatically qualify for the NCAA individual championships in Lake Nona in November. But the quarterfinals will also be played on Friday, so it is not surprising that two of the eight Mense QuarterfinalistsDK Suresh van Wake Forest and Sebastian Gorzny from Texas, both still in Doubles, and one of the eight Ladies Quarter FinalistReese Brantmeier of North Carolina, also in Doubles, gave their opponents a walkover to Saturday’s semi -final.

Suresh, the top seeds and Gorzny, a seed of no. 9, both had three set matches in the third round. Suresh came back to beat Duncan Chan of TCU 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Gorzny saved four match points in his 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (9) victory over No. 8 Seed Sebastian Dominko by Notre Dame. Gorzny fell two breaks with Dominko on 4-1 in the third set to win four consecutive games. He went 6-4 in the Tiebreaker, but Dominko could not take advantage of his chances there or on 7-6 and 8-7, and Gorzny hit his ticket to the ncaas with a smart slice of Backhand Korte Hoek on his second match point at 10-9.

Gorzny gave a walkover in the quarterfinals to Aidan Kim van Ohio State, the number 2 seed; Suresh’s Walkover put no. 7 seed Dylan Dietrich from Virginia in the semi -final.
