Murshidabad, a place where history thrives, will organize its largest mango festival ever for mango enthusiasts, gourmets and travelers in June, with the event of a month coinciding with the high season for the King of Fruit.

In his 10th edition, Azimganj Mango Festival strives for more than 1,000 visitors from all over the country to experience the various world of mango’s, one of the oldest cultivated fruits. About 400 orchards are available in Murshidabad, the second largest mango -producing district after the neighboring Malda district in West Bengalen.

Murshidabad is generally known as a place that is rich in history. It was the capital of Bengalen before the arrival of the British in India. Azimganj is located on the southern bank of the Bhagirathi river.

“Azimganj Mango Festival begint vanaf 1 juni. Dit jaar zal het festival vorig jaar een maandlang zijn tegen een eendaags evenement. Dus deze keer verwachten we meer dan 1000 bezoekers. Ongeveer 400 bezoekers kwamen de vorige keer. In termen van activiteiten zal deze editie van het festival groter, groter en beter zijn,” Pradip Chopra, President van Murshidabad Heritage Development Society, verteld, verteld Businessline.

Mango trail experience

“The visitors will be treated to a daily mango trail experience. They will visit local orchards to use and taste different Mango varieties. They will also learn about the history and cultivation of mangos, and explore the various world of mangos, including rare and local varieties,” said Chopra, who is comparable to this experience.

Museum hotel

“Last year the house of Sheherwali was not there, so the accommodation of visitors was a problem. This year we can house a large number of visitors,” he added.

Located in Azimganj in Murshidabad, the house of Sheherwali is the first museum hotel in its kind in East India. This museum hotel shows treasures from British, Dutch, French and Portuguese together with Sheherwali, Mughal and Bengalian households.

Murshidabad Town still bears memories of nawabs with mosques, digging and gardens. The place has a great historical significance, because in 1757 the British East India Company Nawab Siraj-Ud-Daulah beat in the Battle of Plassey, and then the entire nation was brought under British colonial rule.

India, the largest producer of mangos, has more than 500 varieties, with only Murshidabad being home to around 150 varieties.

Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas are important mango -producing districts in West Bengal. The mango culture here was first promoted by the Nawab and Nizams of Bengal.
