The Mumbai Cricket Association has taken a major step towards strengthening women’s cricket in the city by officially launching the Women’s T20 Mumbai League, which will kick off on June 1. Modeled on the successful men’s T20 Mumbai League, the new franchise-based league looks to provide a platform exclusively for Mumbai women cricketers.

The first edition is tentatively scheduled for June 1 to 15, immediately after the conclusion of the IPL season. The tournament consists of three teams and a total of seven matches. The MCA has already sold three franchises, generating over INR 4 crore in revenue. PRS Infraprojects LLP emerged as the highest bidder with INR 2.25 crore, followed by Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd with INR 1.09 crore, and World Star Sporting Private Limited with INR 79 lakh. The successful bidders will officially operate the three teams, subject to completion of formalities and approval by the T20 Mumbai Governing Council.

MCA president Ajinkya Naik described the response to the bidding process as an affirmation of the association’s long-term vision for women’s cricket. According to Naik, the league will serve as a crucial platform for emerging talent and further strengthen cricket in Mumbai.

“The overwhelming response to the bidding process for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League is a strong endorsement of our vision to take women’s cricket in Mumbai to the next level. The participation of renowned corporate groups reflects the growing commercial confidence in women’s football. We are committed to building a competitive and professionally managed league that provides a robust platform for emerging talent,” said Ajinkya Naik, the MCA President.

The competition will be limited to players from Mumbai, a city with nearly 55 affiliated cricket clubs. The MCA also plans to organize a player auction to ensure a transparent selection process.

The competition is expected to feature three icon players, subject to availability, including Jemimah Rodrigues, Saima Thakor and Sayali Satghare. Their participation would not only raise the profile of the tournament but also inspire young cricketers across the city. T20 Mumbai League Board Chairman Rajdip Gupta termed the successful bidding process as an important milestone. He noted that the strong financial support shows the potential of the competition.

“The successful completion of the bidding process marks a significant milestone for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League. The strong bids received underline the credibility and potential of the league. We look forward to working closely with the franchise owners to deliver a high-quality tournament that showcases the depth of women’s cricket talent in Mumbai,” said Rajdip Gupta, Chairman of the T20 Mumbai League Board of Directors.
