Former UFC flyweight contender Muhammad Mokaev will face a rising prospect for the Brave CF 125lb championship.
Muhammad Mokaev will meet rising flyweight star Gerard Burns in the Brave CF 100 main event on November 7. Mokaev and Burns will battle for the men’s flyweight championship in a huge showdown marking the promotion’s 100th event.
Brave CF announced the news of the Mokaev-Burns fight in a press release on Thursday.
Mokaev returns to the cage after defeating Thomas Assis by unanimous decision at 971 Fighting Championship 2 in June. The matchup was at 135 lbs and Mokaev now heads back to his main competitive division.
Muhammad Mokaev will fight for his first world title since leaving the UFC
Despite a seven-fight undefeated streak in the UFC Octagon, the promotion opted to part ways with Mokaev after several incidents outside the cage. The 25-year-old had a volatile relationship with the UFC matchmakers, reportedly turning down fights and making high demands.
Mokaev denies these allegations and is confident he can change the minds of the UFC brass in the coming months. During his UFC tenure, Mokaev defeated the likes of Manel Kape, Alex Perez and Tim Elliott.
Mokaev will face a tough test in Burns, who has won six straight fights and is considered one of the top flyweight prospects in the world. Burns last defeated Alinson Ochoa by unanimous decision in July to secure a spot in the flyweight title match with Mokaev.
The 25-year-old Mokaev still has plenty of time to once again make a strong case for a return to the UFC Octagon at some point in his career. Mokaev is desperately needed in the UFC flyweight title as Alexandre Pantoja has knocked out most of the top contenders in the division.
Mokaev could get another chance with a win over Burns as he looks to secure a world championship to add to his resume.
