Former Geelong mayor and paparazzo Darryn Lyons is offloading $6 million worth of real estate assets, including a Far North Queensland retreat with gorilla statues and a striking pink apartment in Sydney.
The media personality, once known for his signature pink Mohawk during his paparazzo days in the 1990s, is selling after moving abroad for work and travel opportunities.
As part of the portfolio reshuffle, Mr Lyons, also known as Mr Paparazzi, has listed a four-bedroom property at 16 Rankin St, Newell, in Far North Queensland, for sale at bids in excess of $2.5 million.
The home, marketed through Mark Flinn of Ray White Port Douglas, features a bold architectural design, enhanced by striking gorilla sculptures – a nod to Mr Lyons’ former ownership as an arts business.

“The gorillas are powerful, grounded and protective, just like the house itself,” Lyons said.
“The world just falls away when you get here.
“Any stress disappears as soon as you enter.
“I sometimes wonder why I’m selling it, but this house deserves someone who can really live in it.”
Mr Lyons said the property had been his escape from the world.
“You don’t own a property like that until it continually gives back to you,” he said.
“This isn’t just ownership; it’s been a long-term love affair.”
Mr Lyons said his first encounter with the property was “spiritual, immediate and unmistakable”.
“It’s a luxurious observation house for nature,” he said.
“Each space is designed to frame what is happening outside: the ocean, the rainforest, the sky, the light.
“You don’t live next to nature here, you live in it.

“It’s not just a house, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime way of life, and I’ve made the dream come true with this house.
“How many properties can you walk through your backyard and onto a seven-mile private beach?
“You have the ocean as your backyard and the rainforest as your front yard.”
Situated on a 1012 sqm block, the absolute beach property with wet edge pool, lush landscaping and ocean views.
Set over two levels, the house has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, easy indoor-outdoor flow, open-plan living areas and walls of glass to enjoy the tropical views.
The property is less than 15 minutes from Port Douglas.

Also on the market is Mr Lyons’ pink two-bedroom apartment in Sydney’s Harry Seidler-designed Horizon Building.
Mr Lyons bought the 15th floor apartment at 1502/184 Forbes St, Darlinghurst off the plan in 1998.
He transformed the property into a luxurious pink retreat overlooking Sydney’s CBD, Woolloomooloo Bay, the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House.
The property will be auctioned on Saturday, February 21 and has an auction guide of $3.8 million.
