Mother-daughter HBCU grads prove that it is ‘never too late’ to be trained

A mother-daughter duo who became HBCU graduates let others know about their shared purpose of education.

Angela Jones and Jordyn Jones are the newest graduates from Southern University and A&M College. Their walks on the stage, however, show another journey, one that symbolizes their resilience and determination from our own soil to achieve this academic goal.

“It wasn’t just about walking on the podium,” said Jordyn, according to HBCU Gameday. “The point was to be in goal – together.”

The two initially did not intend to gradually graduate at the same time. The older Jones had achieved her bachelor almost three decades ago. Despite the gorge, Angela tried to prove that the dream had only postponed.

“I have always had the feeling that I wanted to reach more academically,” she said. “I wanted to prove myself and my daughter that it is never too late to follow higher education.”

Although she did not have to return for another diploma in addition to her daughter, their journeys stood in line for the Jones women to support each other via Midterms and then.

“Supporting each other through school at the same time was a blessing,” said Jordyn. “We leaned on each other during heavy assignments and moments of doubt. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a prayer or just know that we were not alone, we maintained each other.”

In fact, it was the admission of her daughter by the Undergrad who inspired Angela to write back. However, what she did not expect was that the younger Jones could find her ride.

“Her determination inspired me to continue, even if things were impossible,” Jordyn explained. “She taught me that you can overcome everything with the right mentality and faith.”

This belief and family support have led both to have paid this performance together, together while they fell a new legacy.

This milestone means everything for our family, “Angela expressed.” It represents generation growth, the breaking of barriers and evidence that dreams can be achieved, regardless of circumstances. Growth does not stop at any age. Your goals are still valid, regardless of how much time has passed. “

Now the Joneses are celebrating their double performance as trained black women with HBCU degrees. The mother-daughter duo hopes to inspire other families to get an education when they feel back to class.
