Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram became nostalgic during the Asia Cup 2025 of India against the VAE in Dubai, while he praised Indian Bowlers Mohammed Shami and Kuldep Yadav while remembering his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
Although Shami is currently not part of the T20i team in India, Kuldeep was on his deadly best on Wednesday evening and chose four wickets, including three in one – while India threw over for only 57 runs from the VAE in 13.1.
“Kuldeep Yadav has been wonderful for India, and the battle people of the VAE have not previously confronted with a quality spinner like him,” Akram said in the air.
The legendary pacer then shared a personal memory with Shami. “Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav used to be with me during breakfast and other meals of the day. I could see the hunger in their eyes and they wanted to achieve success. I am proud of what they have achieved for India,” he said.
Akram unveiled a special gesture from Shami and added: “I went back to Pakistan a few days during one of the IPL seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders. I was at the franchise for six years. Mohammed Shami dropped me at the airport and I was surprised by his act.”
Akram, who was associated with KKR for six years as a mentor and bowling coach, praised both Shami and Kuldeep for their rise in match winners for India.
