The bowling department, especially the pacers, have not taken early wickets with the new ball nor at the death. Barring a threat from Usman Tariq, other Pakistani bowlers have not had the best of times against a quality batting team, namely India. Their first Super 8 match against New Zealand was a failure.
Mohammad Amir takes a closer look at Pakistani players
Ahead of their next match against England, former pacer Mohammad Amir has given his opinion on the mentality of the Pakistan players and their overconfidence in a talk show called Hasna Mana Hain. He brought up an early example when Mickey Arthur was Pakistan’s coach. However, he mentioned neither the cricketer nor the coach while bashing his side.

Muhammad Amir said: “A coach visited me after the 2023 World Cup and said that these players were never bigger than the game six years ago, now they think they are. He asked a player who batted at number 4 to move to number 6 and he immediately refused.”

Mohammad Amir said: “I won’t name any coach. He came to my house for dinner after the 2023 World Cup. I had a good chat with him. I asked him where the problem was. He had talent and all that. I asked him why that happened. He said he could only tell me that the players he left behind six years ago were not bigger than the game of cricket.”
‘We are not improving’ – Mohammad Amir
“Now I feel that these players think they are bigger than cricket. This is the biggest problem that is preventing us from progressing. We are not improving.”
Mohammad Amir concluded by saying, “He said that he told a player that he thinks he asked a player who batted at No. 4 to move to No. 6 so that our combination will be better. He said he refused and replied to the coach. He told me this is the real problem.” In response to Amir’s statement, the host suggested he was talking about Mickey Arthur.
During the show, Babar’s batting position was also discussed as many former cricketers and experts believe that the number 4 position is not suitable for a player like Babar Azam. He has scored 66 points in the competition so far, with his highest score being 46; he has played with a low strike rate of almost 116.
Mohammad Amir questions the decision to drop Abrar Ahmed
On the show, Amir initially questioned the decision to drop Abrar Ahmed from the team after a poor performance in the tournament, namely against India. Amir talked about Abrar’s performance as he picked wickets in every situation of the game.
Amir understands why the performers have stood still and why Pakistan is keen to field more all-rounders than a straight batsman and a bowler in the playing XI.
If Pakistan wants to qualify for the semi-finals, Pakistan’s mid-table position needs to be improved in the coming matches as the country now has stronger opponents such as England and Sri Lanka. The Men in Green face England on Tuesday, and it’s a must-win match with the first match being a failure.
