Mirra Andreeva and Alexandra Eala clash at the Macau exhibition this week

Mirra Andreeva and Alexandra Eala will play a practice match during the Macau Tennis Masters on Sunday.

The Russian, ranked No. 9 in the world, and the rising Filipino star have had no previous encounters.

After some action in Macau just before the start of the new season, Andreeva will fly to Australia. The two-time WTA 1000 champion will play at the Brisbane International and Adelaide International before the Australian Open.

On the other hand, Eala will fly to New Zealand as she has chosen to start 2026 in Auckland. After Auckland, the runner-up from Eastbourne will go to Australia in 2025 and will also compete in Adelaide.

With Andreeva, 18, and the 20-year-old Filipina being some of the most promising and talented players in the game, Macau organizers have certainly selected a very intriguing matchup for their women’s match at this year’s event.

Andreeva received special recognition in Russia, Eala achieved a special achievement

Recently, Andreeva – who was still 17 when she won the WTA 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Dubai earlier this year – was named Russian Tennis Player of the Year.

“Thank you very much for choosing me as Tennis Player of the Year. It is a pleasure to receive this award as a lot of hard work has gone into it. This award is a huge bonus for me. I would have loved to be there in person, but a very important person will receive the award on my behalf,” the 18-year-old said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Eala also had a special month since winning the 2025 Southeast Asian Games. This meant that a Filipino woman won the event for the first time in 26 years.
