In 2013, the San Antonio Spurs Were one ray all three-pointer removed from an NBA championship. But Miami Heat Vooruit Chris Bosh took the attacking rebound, found all in the corner and the rest is history. The heat then won their second consecutive NBA title.
In 2024 the Minnesota Lynx Game 5 dropped after Lynx Forward Alanna Smith was called for an error on Liberty star Breanna Stewart in the decreasing seconds of regulation. The Liberty then won overtime. The lynx rumbled on stage, the possibility to protect an elusive Wnba Title that had slipped through their hands.
We all know how the Spurs responded to that defeat. The next season the Spurs won a competition-best 62 games during the regular season. They defeat the heat in five games in a final rematch and won all four matches in double digits. One of the most devastating losses in modern basketball had come.
The Lynx seems destined to follow in the footsteps of the Spurs. They currently have a 23-5 record and are five games for freedom. On Wednesday she defeated New York in the first WNBA Finals Rematch of the season.
The lynx, just like the tracks, is not very flashy. They are a small market team that had received very little national attention until last spring. McBride still has a stellar season, on average 14.4 points and shoots 38.4% of three. And the always reliable Alanna Smith is an average of 9.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The path to a WNBA title is likely to go through freedom, and although they have had some struggles lately, they recently took over the Belgian star Emma Meesseman, who is expected to make her debut every day. Meesseman was the 2019 final MVP and serves as a different addition to an already stacked selection with head of Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones and Leonie Fiebich. Each of Stewart, Ionescu or Jones can appear on a certain night the best player on the floor on the floor. And if Messeman plays something like how she did it when she was last strung in the Wnba, she could do the same.
