There was a lot of racing action in the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at each song’s “three stars”:
THE BEST IN THE REGION

FIRST STAR: MASKED AND MUMMERED. Saturday’s program in Charles Town was the James and Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs. After a third-place finish in the Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders’ Classic, Maskedandmummed was sent off as the 3-1 third choice in the seven-horse field. She pressured early leader Truth and Justice most of the way, then powered her way past that rival down the stretch and broke free late to win by two lengths, covering the distance in 1.28.49. She improved to 2-for-6 lifetime with career earnings of over 81,000. Antonio Lopez was considered for owner/breeder Casey’s Legacy LLC and trainer Ron Sigler.
SECOND STAR: TWISTED RIDE. Parx hosted an open sprint on Tuesday. Twisted Ride, most recently second in the Maryland Million Sprint, snapped a long losing streak when he won by 2 1/2 lengths. Sent off as the 9-10 favorite off the rail, he was pushed onto the pace by Bernie’s Mitts. Down the stretch, Twisted Ride shook off that rival’s challenges and rode clear for the win, covering six furlongs in 1.10.82. It was his 10th win in 36 starts and his first victory since June 2024. He is a private breeder of Kasey K Racing Stable, which co-owns him with Michael Day and Final Turn Racing Stable LLC. He is trained by Michael Moore and ridden by Andy Hernandez.
THIRD STARS: JORGE RUIZ AND YEDSIT HAZLEWOOD. Laurel Park’s top two jockeys both had great days on Saturday. They each recorded four victories on the eleven-race programme. Ruiz rode all his winners on grass. He guided Beyond Question to victory in Race 3 for trainer Mike Trombetta, won Race 5 with Michael Matz trainee Lucky Esther, completed the hat trick in Race 6 at Bar Fourteen for trainer Bruce Brown and sealed the grand slam in Race 8 with Tough Workout, trained by Sarah Nagle. Hazlewood took his first win of the day in race 2, partnering Fabia for trainer Hammy Smith. He cruised to victory in the fourth race aboard the Gary Capuano-trained Let’s Go Lando, guided Sharmin to victory in race 10 for trainer Hugh McMahon, and capped the day by winning the 11th race aboard Shootersgottashoot for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. About halfway through the season, Ruiz and Hazlewood have each ridden 30 winners, with Ruiz having 105 climbs to Hazlewood’s 138. They are both nine wins clear of third-place Jevian Toledo.

FIRST STARS: JORGE RUIZ AND YEDSIT HAZLEWOOD. These two are ready to take part in an exciting battle for the jockey title.
SECOND STAR: SHARMIN. On Saturday, she earned her third straight win on a Maryland-limited first-level route.
THIRD STAR: MACLEAN’S SMOKE. Set off on Friday to crush the field by six lengths in a first-level washout route.
CARELSTAD
FIRST STAR: MASKED AND MUMMERED. Showed tactical speed and took her first stakes win on Saturday.
SECOND STAR: MAGGIE’S GIRL. In her first start since her win in the 1/ST BET Breeders’ Classic, she led every step of the way in an open distribution dash on Wednesday despite the constant challenge from Uptownblingithome.
THIRD STAR: MY FLICKER. Sat the trip and took off to win a second-level sprint on Friday for her 12th career win and 25th career exact finish.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: TWISTED RIDE. The stylish veteran found his way back to the winner’s circle on Tuesday.
SECOND STAR: GOLDEN ICE. Won his third race in a row on Monday, rising in the final steps to win a second-level route.
THIRD STAR: OTTER ACCIDENT. Set the pace and pedal away to win a first-level route by 10 lengths on Saturday.
