Microsoft in conversations to retain access to OpenAi’s Tech Beyond Agi Milestone | Techcrunch

Microsoft is said to be in advanced conversations with OpenAI for a new agreement that would give continuous access to the technology of the startup, even if OpenAI achieves what it defines as AGI, or advanced general intelligence service. If the deal continues, this would release an important obstacle in the transition from OpenAi to a fully commercial enterprise.

The companies have regularly negotiated and they can reach an agreement within a few weeks, Bloomberg reportsWith reference to three anonymous sources. The report mentioned some of the sources that say that although the conversations have been positive, other roadblocks could arise in the form of regulating research and the lawsuit of Elon Musk to block the profit motive of OpenAi.

OpenAi is currently structured as a mission-driven non-profit that supervises a drained for-profit company-a setup that is intended to limit how fully it can commercialize or raise money. That structure did not prevent it from lifting billions and to work as a traditional technology company, but OpenAi still wants to shake off its limitations.

Microsoft, the largest Backer in OpenAI invested with $ 13.75 billion and rights to a part of the IP of the Chatgpt Maker, has set up meaningful roadblocks to open the future of OpenAI as a for-profit company, with conversations dragging for months.

Microsoft wants a greater importance in the restructured company and tries to guarantee its access to OpenAi’s Tech outside the current deal, which ends in 2030 or when OpenAi says that the AGI has reached – although nobody can really agree on what that means.

Microsoft has built its Azure OpenAi service around the models of the smaller company and has integrated the technology of the startup in Copilot in Windows, Office and Github. If OpenAi suddenly explains that the Agi has reached and cut off access, Microsoft would lose a huge strategic advantage. The chatgpt -maker has reportedly also told his investors that he expects Microsoft to pay a lower part of his income as it progresses.

A source told Bloomberg that Openai also hopes to guarantee that Microsoft is using the Technology of OpenAi safely, especially because it is approaching AGI.

Microsoft also allows you to win because OpenAI becomes a company with a profit. The current setup caps investors returns, so a more standard structure would give Microsoft the opportunity to receive formal equity and considerable return, in addition to access to OpenAi’s technology.

Bloomberg reports that the two companies are negotiating a share interest for Microsoft in the range of low to central 30%.
