The order submitted on 30 June charges Teneyuque with one count of food -voucher fraud of $ 1,000 or more.
A woman from Michigan accused of welfare fraud using a state bridge card had postponed her hearing earlier this month.
Talia C. Teneyuque’s defender, Anthony S. Gonzales, asked for the interruption on 3 September because her regular lawyer, Emilie K. Lyday, who had just been assigned the case, was in a trial in another courtroom.
Judge Terry L. Clark has postponed the proceedings. The case will resume at a later timeAccording to Mlive.
Prosecutors claim that Teneyuque uses its bridge card benefits, generally known as food aid or food vouchers, to purchase ingredients, which they then used to bake goods. Teneyuque then sold them for personal gain.
The operation, said prosecutors, lasted from January 2022 to September 2023. The alleged misconduct of Teneyuque was examined by the Michigan Office of Inspector General, according to MLive.
The order submitted on 30 June will charge it with one count of food -voucher fraud of $ 1,000 or more. If convicted, Teneyuque could be sentenced to 10 years in prison and get a fine of no less than $ 250,000.
Authorities said they will continue to collect evidence, while the court is waiting for Lyday becoming available. Teneyuque has been released on a bond of $ 50,000.
Other residents of Michigan are responsible for abusing benefits for food aid. In 2023, Dana Nessel, Charles Williams and Darian Palmer were accused of a theft of several millions of dollars.
According to the indictment, the three people traded food vouchers for cash, which generated a win of $ 4 million. The defendants are said to have stolen information about food stamp card from recipients outside the state and have reproduced the cards. Subsequently, the defendants made wholesale purchases at retailers such as Sam’s Club, probably to continue selling.
The Ring is said to have obtained illegal Electronic Benefit (EBT) map data from 8,000 cardholders, most of whom lived in California.
