UFC analyst and commentator Laura Sanko believes Michael Morales could be the next challenger for Islam Makhachev’s UFC welterweight championship.
Throughout his career in the UFC, Michael Morales has continued to improve. The Ecuadorian star has been on the rise for some time now and after recently finishing Sean Brady, he made many people sit up and see him as a possible world title contender.
Islam Makhachev, meanwhile, is the 170-pound champion and one of the greatest fighters of all time. Michael Morales is young and still has a long way to go before he is the finished product, but at this point it’s hard to deny that he deserves a title shot, or at least would be in the conversation.
In a recent interview, Laura Sanko gave her opinion on the future of Michael Morales.
Lauro Sanko backs Michael Morales for UFC title shot
“What’s crazy about him (Morales) is that as the challenge gets bigger, I think he just looks better, which generally isn’t the case,” Sanko told MMA Junkie. “Generally your fights get longer as the challenge increases and you might have some decisions. He continues to look absolutely sensational, and to do what he did against Sean Brady? I certainly didn’t expect it to look like this. I think he’s going to have a really great, big year.”
“I think personally Michael Morales is the guy,” Sanko said. “A lot of creating stars in MMA is about leveraging momentum and having impeccable timing and matchmaking with that timing. I think it would be a shame to wait too long or create an opportunity where you can’t leverage that momentum. I think so.
“I like Kamaru. I think this is a much tougher fight than a lot of people say, I will say that. I think Kamaru could give Islam a real challenge. If that fight is made, I will be happy with it, I will look at it. But I think Michael Morales (should get the title).”
