Michael Chandler has released a new update on his highly anticipated but rumored showdown with Conor McGregor at the UFC White House. McGregor and Chandler have both verbally confirmed they would fight each other on June 14, but the promotion has yet to confirm this and will begin scheduling the card in February.

‘The Notorious’ is in the test pool and has trained regularly. Reports say he has also appealed course partners who can reflect Chandler’s style.

Earlier today, Michael Chandler revealed in an interview with ESPN MMA that discussions are taking place with the UFC regarding the potential showdown with Conor McGregor on the South Lawn of the White House. ‘Iron’ says it’s more likely than even two will collide this year.

“The odds are better right now than they’ve ever been before. It’s no secret. Obviously I want to fight Conor, and I think it’s no secret, the things he posts, the interviews he’s done, the number of times he’s said my name, posted a video of me, him and our highlights, and all that stuff a week or so ago. He wants to fight me. I want to fight him. He wants to fight in the White House. I want nothing more than to get the red, white and blue stars and to carry beams, walk onto the White House lawn and fight in the White House.

He added:

“You know how hard it is to put percentages on anything in mixed martial arts… But one thing is for sure. Conor wants to fight me in the White House, I want to fight him in the White House, and discussions are being had. I think things are moving in that direction, but we’ll never know when it will be announced.”

Chandler’s comments suggest that like Conor McGregor, he will have a six-month training camp before the two fighters meet to settle the score. ‘Iron’ also stated in the same interview that since the UFC likes to keep things under wraps to build up the hype, fans may have to wait longer for the promotion to announce the McGregor vs. Chandler fight.

Chandler and Conor McGregor served as the opposing coaches on TUF 31 in 2023. The two were scheduled to fight at UFC 303 in 2024, but the Irishman withdrew due to a toe injury. McGregor has not entered the octagon since break his leg at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier.

Meanwhile, after the UFC 303 fight was scrapped, Chandler went on to fight twice and lose both times.

Conor McGregor says he will never retire

During a recent candid chat with boxing legend Mike Tyson, Conor McGregor confessed that he never plans to put down the gloves. Looking ahead, McGregor has expressed an interest in fighting in the BKFC, which he co-owns. He said to Tyson:

“I never bow. Fight to the end until we meet God.”
