MIAMI (WSVN) – A budget fight takes place during a meeting of the Miami -Dade committee about proposed cuts.
Miami-Dade Commissioners will meet on Wednesday afternoon while discussing the updates of the mayor’s proposed budget.
Before the meeting today we spoke with Daniella Levine Cava, who spoke about the programs and services she is planning to recover by nearly $ 66 million, including funds of services for art, public safety, roads, gas, taxes and transport.
The original expenditure of the mayor had stripped the majority of the financing of the county of non -profit organizations, artists, senior centers, senior health services, as well as First Responders who were at the meeting and said they feel they have forgotten.
“The big problem today is for the first time in 40 years Air Rescue, the helicopters that offer an air ambulance service, combat forest fires, carry out a search and rescue missions and regionally flying with state and federal partners and surrounding provinces, that financing is suddenly and entirely shifted in the fire brigade district, William said.
Mcallister is concerned that the shift in funds limits their ability to respond to calls quickly enough during emergency situations, sometimes at the costs of lives.
“This ensures that we cannot place new engines and new rescues on the street. Currently our response time is more than nine minutes to life -threatening calls, it’s just too long to wait, people will die,” said Mcallister.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, however, maintains her position on the budget that it regards it honestly.
“We will continue and continue to find savings, this is not just a one -off situation, but we are confident that we have produced an honest and realistic and compassionate budget,” said Levine Cava.
At these times, commissioners still discuss the proposed budget.
