Mets VP of player development excited with Rookies: ‘You celebrate the children’

From a development position, 2025 cannot be seen as anything else than a success for the Mets.

Exhibitions A, B and C are planned for action in the coming three days, with Jonah Tong, Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean tuned to start competitions in the heat of a pennant race.

Looking at the trio Blossom this summer was worth the vice president of player development Andy Green, but his true satisfaction is to see all three that the Major League club.

“You celebrate the children,” Green said on Wednesday in Citi Field before the 7-4 loss of Mets to the Padres. “You celebrate the work they have done because they have become to get to that place. McLean, who has an ERA of 1.19 during his first six starts and came forward as a potential staff, was a two -way player on arrival in the 2023 design from the state of Oklahoma.

Starting last season, McLean used all his energy in pitching – bringing the glove and bat from his infielder – and the results followed.

“That accelerated how quickly he arrived – he came here faster,” said Green. “I don’t think you doubt him. Is it possible that he could have found his way here as a batter? I don’t think you have doubts about people who have been wasted like that. But the effort and energy that he has stabbed his pitching development to a certain extent, and it is needed much to be at this level at this level.”

Tong, which is planned to start the Padres on Thursday, had a rough outing against the Rangers on Friday in which he allowed six points earned and could not escape the first inning.

Green noted that an outing had tongue last season in Single-A in which he had not escaped the first inning.

“Then he bounced back and last year had a great year that catapulted him this year,” said Green. “I think that is what you are looking for with young boys. Let me see the difficult moments, because it is guaranteed that they will appear at some point. You have a young child who has shown those moments of resilience and he can trust it in moments and know that he can return to the Mound and the percussion zone.”
