Clay Holmes hangs there late in his first MLB season as a starter, but there are signs that he might come without gas.
During the first month of the season it seemed that Holmes would maintain his strikeout percentage during his switch from the bullpen to the rotation and 27.5 percent of the batters (10.57 batters per nine innings) would hit his first six outings.
Since then he has been a contact world.
After the calendar was used to May, Holmes posted a strike output of 16.1 percent while beating 6.16 per nine innings.
Those figures were both in the bottom 10 that came in on Wednesday between pitchers with at least 90 innings on the hill over that piece.
He has it even more difficult to get it lately through batters, and hits more than four batters in just one competition since the All-Star break and only twice since mid-June.
The right-handed person did not exactly give himself favors in the Strikeout category by throwing six innings only once in his last 13 starts.
Holmes will be confronted with one of the best teams in baseball when avoiding strikeouts on Thursday in Queens.

The Marlins only spend 20.7 percent of the time, which is the sixth lowest percentage in the competition.
Holmes was strong against Miami in back-to-back Start in April and threw 16 in 10 innings, but as said he is a much other pitcher a few months later.
Do not expect Holmes to fill the box score on Thursday in the first of a four-game set after a three-game sweep from the Phillies.
The piece: Clay Holmes under 4.5 strikeouts (-168, Fanduel)
